Paying tribute to the vibrant musical and cultural history of Memphis, Beale Street has nightclubs, restaurants and shops that recognize its status as both the Home of the Blues and the Birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll. One of its key annual events is the Beale Street Music Festival in early May, this kickoff event for Memphis in May sees big-name performers and tens of thousands of spectators filling the area for three days of festivities. The street is home to such recognized establishments as B.B. King's Blues Club, the Hard Rock Cafe and the Blues City Cafe, along with many other popular live music establishments. The downtown street runs east-west, with the most popular tourist area sitting just north of the FedExForum arena.
