The region's top performing arts venue, Memphis' Orpheum Theatre was first built as a vaudeville theater in 1928, featuring the lavishly appointed interior and bright gilded ornamentation characteristic of such 1920s venues. Though it fell into disrepair during the mid-20th century, a 1980s restoration has brought the theater back to its original glory, and it is now home to the Memphis Concert Ballet and Opera Memphis as well as touring Broadway performances and special movie events. The theater is located on Beale Street, about a block from B.B. King's Blues Club and two blocks from the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum at the FedExForum.
