Depicting the cultural and natural history of the mid-South, the Pink Palace Museum incorporates dioramas, displays and audio-visual experiences to create an all-encompassing look into the region's past. Visitors can walk through a replica of the country's first self-service grocery store, trace the growth of Memphis from the site's first Spanish explorers through the events of the Civil War and learn how health care has grown into the city's largest industry. Also contained within the museum are the Sharpe Planetarium and an IMAX Theater, each transforming fun, educational shows into a larger-than-life cinematic experience. The museum itself is built inside a 1922 mansion set in southeastern Memphis, about a mile past the Children's Museum of Memphis.
